St. George’s Indian Band Council Inc.
The community of St. George’s is an area rich in Mi’kmaw history. Earliest occupation of the area is uncertain, however the area known as “Seal Rocks” which is now a part of the community of St. George’s, is well documented as being the largest and principle Mi’kmaw settlement in the 17, 18 and 1900’s. Mi’kmaw oral tradition maintains that the Mi’kmaw occupation of the area is ancient.
St. George’s Courthouse was designated a Registered Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2001.
