MANL Midday Museums: Decolonizing Heritage Spaces in NL

Date: Friday, November 29
Time: 12:00 PM
Location: Online via Zoom

This session will introduce a new collaboration between the Museum Association of Newfoundland and Labrador and two PhD Candidates from Memorial University, Jared T. Hogan and Caylee Dzurka.

Together, we are developing a guide to help non-Indigenous-led museums integrate Indigenous history and build meaningful relationships with Indigenous Governments, advancing reconciliation and decolonization in Newfoundland and Labrador’s heritage sector. The project’s first phase involves surveying MANL members to assess current knowledge of Indigenous history and identify support needs. Guided by the CMA’s Moved to Action Report (2022) and the TRC’s Calls to Action (2015), this initiative aims to equip NL museums to represent Indigenous histories “in a good way.”
