Date: Tuesday, May 27, 2025
Time: 12:00 PM NDT
Location: Online via Zoom

Did you know that low relative humidity can be just as harmful for your collections as high relative humidity? Did you know that heavily deteriorated cellulose nitrate film can ignite above 38°C? In this information session MANL’s Digital Project Coordinator Kseniia Trubachova will introduce you to the basics of monitoring the environment at your museum, and what it means for the preservation of your collections.

We will learn about agents of deterioration and the danger they pose to cultural objects, different types of environmental monitoring equipment and choosing the right one for your institution, how to ensure the readings are accurate, and more! We will also touch upon the basics of interpreting and analyzing environmental monitoring data. Finally, we will talk about how to identify issues and develop mitigation strategies.
