Museum volunteers have always been at the heart of all of Newfoundland and Labrador museums, large and small. In fact, most of our museums were started by volunteer groups, and close to 60% of all museums Canada-wide are volunteer-run. This presentation will look at that unique history, its successes and challenges, and current trends in intergenerational, family, youth and corporate volunteerism. Tune-in to practical tips dropped on how museums can engage new and diverse volunteers; managing the paid staff-volunteer relationship; and how evidence-based research shows museum volunteering provides physical and mental health benefits.
