Producing high-quality images of museum objects without having access to professional photographic equipment can be challenging, but it’s not impossible! In this workshop MANL’s Digital Project Coordinator Kseniia Trubachova will teach you how to overcome challenges when photographing your artifacts on a limited budget.

We will learn why even an entry-level camera produces better results than a phone, how digital image sensors work, the concept of photosites, how to light your objects using light sources you probably already have on site, how to determine the optimal focal length, and more!

We will also touch upon the basics of image post-processing: cropping, colour and perspective correction, hue, saturation, and so on. Finally, we’ll talk about formatting and resizing your images and choosing the right file format for different purposes.

All levels and experiences are welcome, however, please be advised that this workshop is tailored towards small institutions with limited resources. While some familiarity with basic photographic terminology may be helpful, no preliminary knowledge of photography is required!
