MANL Midday Museums: Heritage Advocacy Discussion Session

Date: Tuesday, March 25
Time: 12:00 PM
Location: Online via Zoom

On March 25, join Luke Quinton (NL Historic Trust) and Jim Miller (Trinity Historical Society) for a discussion about the importance of heritage advocacy and how we, as a community, can join our efforts to protect and promote our cultural and natural heritage.

Background

In the fall of 2024, members of our province’s heritage community formed an advocacy group which initiated a letter-writing campaign, encouraging everyone to contact the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to highlight funding shortfalls experienced by heritage organizations every year. The campaign called on the government to increase funding to Heritage NL and the Heritage Component of the Cultural and Economic Development Program (CEDP) administered by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation by $5 million over the next five years.

Another important component of the campaign was the Heritage Funding Survey, which is still available to fill out: https://forms.gle/4jh39UYhC1ERKZiS7

Please join us for this informal discussion session as we talk about the importance of heritage advocacy and how we all can contribute. Everyone is welcome to join, whether you’re a heritage professional or volunteer, a history enthusiast, or someone whose business benefits from heritage resources!

To register, please fill out this form by 12:00 PM NDT on Monday, March 24.
