Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador
Founded on May 18, 1984, the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador (Heritage NL) is an arms-length Crown agency of the provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation. Heritage NL has a mandate to help preserve the rich heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador, both built and intangible. We do this through programming, financial support for built heritage preservation, and educational and outreach initiatives.
Heritage NL designates Registered Heritage Structures and Registered Heritage Districts, provides grants to Registered Heritage Structures, holds an annual K-12 Heritage Places Poster Contest, and manages the Provincial Historic Commemorations Program. We offer advice and information on a variety of topics including: preserving and restoring heritage buildings; cultural mapping; protecting heritage assets; utilizing heritage resources for community development; and undertaking community oral history and intangible cultural heritage projects.
